Open Position at NDTO: Communications and Marketing Manager

The North Dakota Trade Office (NDTO) is a fast-paced working environment that operates on a global level. We frequently engage with business leaders, dignitaries, and government officials from all over the world, and our team works diligently to promote North Dakota and our exporters. The ideal candidate will have the ability to easily shift between projects and commit to providing a high-quality of work.

Position Summary

The Communications and Marketing Manager is responsible for developing, researching, and writing engaging content for the NDTO website, marketing materials, and newsletter on current events, topics, and relevant issues in trade. The position also drafts press releases, speaking points, letters and other materials designed to deliver key messages to the intended audience. Additionally, this position is responsible for managing NDTO events across the state, assisting with grant administration and communication with companies to facilitate the North Dakota Trade Office’s current grant programs.

Core Duties and Responsibilities:

Communications & Marketing

  • Develop, research, and write creative and interesting articles for the NDTO website and newsletter on current topics and issues in international trade.
  • Request and conduct interviews to write features that spotlight an NDTO member company’s history, employees, and international exporting story.
  • Interview experts to write stories on business, financial and logistics matters.
  • Write press releases, speeches, letters, board minutes and other marketing materials designed to deliver key messages.
  • Manage NDTO LinkedIn account and produce content for posts on a weekly basis.
  • Manage production and distribution of NDTO marketing materials (print and electronic) including but not limited to program brochures, event fliers, membership materials, newsletter, and surveys.
  • Work with Deputy Director on any incoming press or speaking inquiries.
  • Work with partner organizations for joint marketing efforts of news and events.
  • Monitor and track all media coverage for NDTO.

Event Management

  • Lead planning and execution for NDTO events held across the state, including the Big Iron International Visitors Program, Global Business Connections Conference, Global Business Award Ceremony, export education sessions, networking events, and any other events as needed.
  • Assist with the planning for diplomatic and foreign business delegations that visit the state.
  • Assist with trade mission planning as needed.
  • Work with partner organizations for joint marketing efforts

Membership Management

  • Manage NDTO member companies’ data and member benefits using CRM software.
  • Send welcome and renewal membership letters to NDTO exporter members and trade service providers.
  • Update the NDTO team on membership numbers and member renewal status.
  • Process Member Reimbursement Requests and send to Deputy Director for approval and payment.

Grant Assistance

  • Assist with technical applications and preparation of budgets for state and federal grants.
  • Assist with administration of NDTO grant programs.

Perform other duties as assigned

Education and/or Experience:

Bachelor’s degree in marketing, business, international business, or communications, or four years of related experience.

Required Skills:

Computer skills and ability to communicate effectively both orally and in written form with both internal and external customers.

Other Abilities:

Highly organized and flexible to adjust to job and organizational dynamics.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

Valid Driver’s License

Individuals may need to sit or stand as needed. May require walking on a level surface for periodic periods throughout the day. Reaching above shoulder heights, below the waist or lifting as required to file documents or store materials throughout the workday. Proper lifting techniques required. On occasion the position may require lifting up to 25 pounds for files, and related documents or equipment.

Primary environment consists of ambient room temperatures, lighting, and traditional office equipment. Incumbent will travel occasionally to other locations and must adapt to varying room and outdoor temperatures and will assist in setting up equipment and managing a variety of administrative details.
