Former Ambassador Terry Branstad to Keynote GBC

Former US Ambassador to China Terry Branstad will keynote the Global Business Connections conference on May 15, 2024, hosted by the North Dakota Trade Office in West Fargo, ND. With a career marked by leadership roles at both state and international levels, Branstad brings a wealth of experience, insights, and a deep understanding of global business dynamics to the stage.

Ambassador Branstad served as Iowa’s 42nd and 44th governor, making him the longest-serving governor in US history. His tenure was characterized by a commitment to economic development, education, and fostering international trade relationships. Under his leadership, Iowa experienced significant economic growth, solidifying its position as a key player in the US economy.

During his tenure as the US Ambassador to China from 2017 to 2020, Ambassador Branstad’s two greatest accomplishments included the signing of the historic Phase-One Trade Agreement in January 2020 and successfully lobbying the Chinese government to stem the flow of fentanyl into the United States.

In January 2023, Ambassador Branstad assumed leadership of the World Food Prize Foundation and has been a champion of the foundation since its earliest days. He is a founding partner of the strategic consulting firm Branstad Churchill Group, LLC, and in 2022 was named “Ambassador-in-Residence” at Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa, where he received his Juris Doctorate. In addition to his role as president of Des Moines University Medical School, his public service includes election to the office of Lt. Governor and three terms in the Iowa House of Representatives.
