Welcome Tyla to NDTO

Tyla was born in Brookings, South Dakota, with two older sisters and a younger brother. At a young age, her family relocated to Davenport, ND, which was an easy move as they had many family ties in the area already.

Her grandparents were farmers and ranchers in central ND, where Tyla spent a fair share of her childhood riding horses, herding cattle, watching her uncles brand calves, and laying fencing with many younger cousins. Maddock ND’s Independence Day rodeos were some of her fondest memories, along with competing in its “mutton-busting” event. Sadly, she never won, but, agriculture has played a valuable role in her life ever since.

Business communication and collaboration have been a focus for Tyla, starting off early as her FFA team had great success in the State and National FFA competitions. She graduated from Kindred High School in Kindred, ND, and then attended the University of Minnesota Duluth where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in Writing Studies with minors in Communication and English and a Creative Writing Certificate. While at UMD, she worked in the public relations office as a Web Communications Assistant, where she discovered a love for digital marketing, media management, and content creation—copywriting, video editing, graphic design, etc. This love has only grown as she’s filled a number of roles in the media and marketing departments of various companies.

Outside of business and marketing, her key passions lie in reading and writing. Tyla enjoys staying up to date on current events, politics, reading Sci-Fi and fantasy novels, and playing with her dog and cat named Mr. Darcy after one of her favorite books. She spends her free time with an open book, polishing up her own creative abilities, and hanging out with her siblings, parents, friends, and pets.

She is beyond thrilled to serve as NDTO’s new Communications and Marketing Manager, and to  learn more about the processes of international and domestic trade in North Dakota!  NDTO is excited to welcome Tyla to the team!
