Stutsman, Foster counties pool resources for export expansion

Business leaders in Stutsman and Foster counties are pooling their resources to expand local companies’ share of the international marketplace.

“Many businesses in Stutsman and Foster counties have significant potential for additional foreign sales and we are working together to realize these opportunities,” said Mark Johnson, the North Dakota Trade Office’s director of International Management.

The Jamestown-Stutsman County Development Corporation has contributed $25,000 and the Carrington Development Corporation $5,000 to fund export expansion. Five Jamestown-based businesses and three Carrington companies have joined the Trade Office and are investing in the initiative.

“We feel that increased export volume is invaluable for our communities,” said Gina Guthmiller, business development specialist for the Jamestown-Stutsman Development Corp. “Expanding international sales not only supports export businesses, but generates new wealth for the local economies.”

The cooperative export expansion program calls for Johnson, the former manager of International sales at Fargo-based Global Electric Motorcars, to regularly work in the Jamestown-Carrington area where he will provide companies with the expertise they need to expand their international business.

The funding also will help defray costs of the Jamestown and Carrington companies as they participate in trade missions, support market research projects and help finance “Trade Talk” seminars designed to educate business leaders about export processes and issues.

“The Jamestown-Carrington area is home to several successful companies with their own unique opportunities in foreign markets,” Trade Office Executive Director Susan Geib said. “By working together we can better leverage all of our resources and provide the personal service these businesses need to move their international business forward.”

The companies participating in the export expansion initiative are:

  • Agri-Cover, Inc., Jamestown
  • Central City Marketing and Processing, Carrington
  • Cherrington Enterprises, Inc., Jamestown
  • Dakota Growers Pasta Company, Carrington
  • DuraTech Industries International, Inc., Jamestown
  • Goodrich Cargo Systems, Jamestown
  • Legume Matrix, Jamestown
  • R. Gussiaas Farms, Carrington
