Receive Certification in Export Management through Fall Course at NDSU

The North Dakota Trade Office has once again partnered with North Dakota State University for the third installment of the NDSU Export Management course.  The 12-week course is offered to students as well as business professionals and prepares attendees for expansion into the global marketplace.  For exporters, the class will run from Jan. 10 – April 3, 2012.

The course, which premiered at NDSU in the spring of 2010, covers all key areas of the export industry and gives participants practical knowledge to help avoid the common and not-so-common missteps that can create regulatory headaches and strip companies of customers and profits.

Each week, the course hosts a guest speaker; this regional panel of experts includes freight forwarders, global branding experts, international bankers and lawyer, amongst others.

“The course was developed to offer a hands-on approach to learning the fundamentals of managing an export business.  Courses are taught by prominent and experienced business managers in our region from all key industries involved in exporting.  It really gives students and company representatives a fresh and honest look at what it takes to be a successful exporter,” said Sharon May, Director of Global Development at the North Dakota Trade Office and organizer of Export Management Course program.

Participants who complete the course will receive a Certificate of Export Management.  New-to-export companies will leave with the tools to create an action plan for managing their own export business; for companies experienced in exporting, such as Titan Machinery, specific courses on Incoterms and international law provide specific answers to many of the common questions in exporting.

“The program greatly benefited Titan,” said Don Aberle, store manager at the Titan Outlet who was a participant in the NDSU Export Management Course.  “The information provided, the course-type study and the varied instructors keep the class interesting and engaging.  I would recommend the course to others.”

The 2012 NDSU Export Management Course is now open for registration.  If you would like more information, or to register for the course, contact NDTO by phone at (701) 231-1154 or email Lindsey Warner at lindsey@ndto.com.
