Although North Dakota is not known for large-scale aluminum production, our state’s economy demonstrates why access to aluminum remains so important. Agriculture, energy production, transportation, and manufacturing all rely on equipment and infrastructure that incorporate aluminum components.

Farm machinery, grain storage systems, irrigation equipment, commercial trucks, utility infrastructure, and energy facilities all benefit from aluminum’s durability and lightweight properties. As North Dakota continues to invest in energy development, value-added manufacturing, and transportation infrastructure, dependable access to globally traded aluminum supports economic growth and operational efficiency.

North Dakota’s central location within North America’s transportation network also highlights the importance of resilient supply chains. Manufacturers, distributors, and agricultural businesses depend on steady flows of raw materials and finished products that often cross international borders before reaching their final destination.

As global populations grow and economies continue to modernize, aluminum’s importance will only increase. Electrification, renewable energy, advanced manufacturing, and sustainable construction all depend on materials that are lightweight, durable, and recyclable.
